Geraldine Fowler
Geraldine Fowler is one of South Africa’s most respected retirement fund professionals, with more than 35 years of leadership experience in retirement fund administration, governance, consulting, regulatory reform, and operational management within the employee benefits sector. Widely recognised as a thought leader and innovator, she has built a distinguished career at the intersection of policy, governance, and operational excellence.
A qualified Professional Executive Principal Officer, Geraldine holds a range of qualifications in insurance, business studies, and professional writing. She is a regular speaker at local and international conferences, a respected industry commentator, and has served as an expert witness in High Court proceedings involving retirement fund matters.
Geraldine served as President of the Institute of Retirement Funds Africa (IRFA) for more than five years and as an IRFA Board Member for over thirteen years. During this time, she played a significant role in advancing industry thought leadership, governance standards, regulatory reform, operational excellence, and improved retirement outcomes across South Africa and the broader African continent.
Most recently, Geraldine was Managing Director of GQM Fund Administrators, a specialist retirement fund administrator. She successfully led the business through its sale and integration into one of South Africa’s leading retirement fund administration organisations.
Passionate about improving socio-economic outcomes through effective retirement systems, Geraldine is a strong advocate for sound governance, member value, equity, diversity, and inclusion. Geraldine’s responsibilities with IRFA and GQM ended 31 August 2026 and she now provides independent consulting services to retirement funds and industry stakeholders, helping organisations strengthen governance, compliance, administration, and operational performance.
Nalandri (Nancy) Andrews
Nalandri (Nancy) Andrews is a highly respected leader in South Africa's financial services sector, with over 25 years of experience shaping legal, regulatory, and governance frameworks. She currently serves as the Vice President of the Institute of Retirement Funds Africa (IRFA) and chairs its Legal and Technical Committee, where she plays a pivotal role in advancing industry standards and policy development.
Nancy is the General Legal Counsel and Head of Legal for Discovery Corporate & Employee Benefits and Discovery Invest, overseeing all legal, compliance, insurance, and tax matters within her division. Her expertise spans retirement funds, life insurance, investments, and tax, making her a trusted advisor in navigating complex regulatory environments.
Academically, Nancy holds a B. Proc degree and several postgraduate diplomas in Tax, Compliance, Insurance and Pensions Law, reflecting her commitment to continuous learning and professional excellence
Throughout her career, Nancy has been deeply involved in industry bodies and collaborative initiatives. She actively contributes to ASISA workgroups and previously served as President of the Pension Lawyers Association of South Africa. Her governance experience includes roles as trustee and Principal Officer for Discovery's retirement funds, providing her with valuable insight into the practical challenges facing retirement fund boards and stakeholders.
Nancy is a recognized thought leader and advocate for regulatory reform. She engages extensively with key stakeholders, including SARS, the FSCA, National Treasury, and Parliament, representing Discovery, IRFA, and the broader retirement fund industry. Her contributions have been instrumental in shaping major legislative change, positioning her as a leading voice in South Africa's evolving financial landscape.

Amanda Khoza
Amanda Khoza is a financial services professional with over two decades of experience across institutional investments, retirement funds and financial sector development. Her interests centre on retirement fund governance, sustainable and responsible investment, development finance and financial sector transformation. She serves on the IRFA Board, chairs the Transformation and Sustainability Committee, and is a member of the Investment Practices Committee. Amanda is the founder and MD of Root Kauz Konsult and a Senior Associate at Zenizeni Sustainable Finance.
Wayne Hiller Van Rensburg
Wayne Hiller Van Rensburg is known in the South African and Sub-Saharan retirement sectors as a thought leader for his advocacy work and expertise in government and investment practices. Wayne is committed to improving retirement outcomes for as many people as possible, in addition, he is a regular speaker at local and international conferences and events. Wayne's commitment has found a greater purpose in his role as the Executive Officer of the Institute of Retirement Funds Africa, where his work has focused on advocacy and education in the retirement sector.
Mandla Nkosi
Mandla Nkosi is a seasoned pensions lawyer and advisory consultant with over 20 years of experience. He serves as an independent trustee and Principal Officer, offering expertise across a wide range of legal and governance areas including Employee Benefits law, Employment law, Corporate/Fund governance and compliance, Asset management law, and Fund transfers, mergers, and liquidation. Additionally, he provides trustee training and member communication support. Mandla holds key roles on various trustee boards, participating in committees such as death claims, investments, legal and governance, audit and risk, and administration for both ordinary and unclaimed benefit funds, including beneficiary funds. At the Institute of Retirement Funds Africa (IRFA), Mandla is a director and trustee. He leads as the Head of Governance/Compliance and Policy Framework, while also serving on the Audit Subcommittee and the Legal and Tax Subcommittee.
Mkuseli Mbomvu
Mkuseli Mbomvu is a seasoned financial services executive with nearly three decades of experience across leading institutions, including Old Mutual, Sanlam Investment Management, the Mineworkers Provident Fund, and Sanlam Corporate.
Throughout his career, he has held various leadership and governance roles, including Chair of the Mineworkers Charitable Trust, Trustee and Principal Officer of the MWPF Beneficiary Fund, and Executive of the Old Mutual Super Fund.
He currently serves as a Board Member of the Institute of Retirement Funds Africa (IRFA), where he also chairs the Investment Practices Committee. His previous board experience includes serving as a Trustee of the Sanlam Umbrella Fund.
Passionate about the retirement fund industry and its role in improving financial outcomes for South Africans, Mkuseli brings deep expertise in retirement fund governance, administration, stakeholder engagement, and regulatory matters. He is a strong advocate for financial inclusion and equitable access to financial services.
In his current role as Executive Head: Group External Relations at Sanlam, he leads strategic stakeholder engagement and partnerships, helping shape conversations across the financial services, retirement, investment, and broader socio-economic landscape
Ntombi Mlambo
Ntombi Mlambo is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa with over 15 years of experience. She holds an LLB from the University of Pretoria, an LLM in Commercial Law, and a Certificate in Insurance Law from the University of Cape Town. She is known for her strategic insight, commercial acumen, and principled leadership, with expertise in Pension Fund Law, Commercial Litigation, Commercial Law, and Insurance Law.
Ntombi built her career at leading firms, advancing to partnership and advising a diverse client base, including corporates, pension funds, and insurance institutions. Her work spans legal advisory, formal opinions, regulatory compliance, and governance structures, with notable experience in retirement fund regulation.
A respected thought leader, Ntombi has presented at the Pension Lawyers Association Annual Conference for four consecutive years and is an active member of key industry bodies, including BATSETA, FAMAC, and IRFA, where she serves on the board. She is the Founder and Managing Director of Mlambo and Associates Inc., a 100% Black female-owned law firm established in 2023.
Cedrick Pila
Cedrick Pila is an independent retirement fund governance professional with over a decade of experience in retirement fund operations, governance, regulatory compliance, and fiduciary oversight. He works with various retirement fund Boards where he provides executive oversight of fund operations, governance, risk, and compliance.
Cedrick is an elected Board Member of the Institute of Retirement Funds Africa (IRFA) and Chair of its Retirement Funds Audit Sub-Committee, contributing to industry governance, regulatory reform, and audit oversight. He is also a Chartered Principal Executive Officer, a Certified Financial Planner, and holds qualifications in investments and pension funds law.
Seelan Naidoo
Seelan “Babs” Naidoo is a seasoned governance and communication leader with more than 36 years of executive experience across South Africa’s public and private sectors. His career reflects a consistent ability to strengthen institutional credibility, manage reputational risk, and align communication strategies with governance priorities—qualities that position him as a trusted contributor to board oversight and strategic decision-making. He has been a Board Member of the Institute for Retirement Funds Africa (IRFA) since August 2025, chairing the organisations Communication Committee.
Babs’s governance expertise extends internationally through his past tenure as a Board Member of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Africa Region, where he advanced ethical standards and professional accountability in the communication industry. He also played a pivotal role in drafting the first Charter in South Africa for the Marketing, Advertising and Communication (MAC) industry, embedding transformation and compliance into sector governance.
With a disciplined strategic mindset, strong financial acumen, and a deep commitment to high-standard corporate governance, Babs brings to boards a rare blend of governance insight, risk management expertise, and strategic communication leadership. His career demonstrates an unwavering dedication to ethical oversight, stakeholder confidence, and reputational resilience—making him a valuable asset to organizations seeking to navigate complexity with integrity and foresight.
Babs has held senior leadership roles that demanded strong risk awareness and governance alignment, including the Executive Head: Stakeholder Management and Communications at the Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF), Head of Communications for Ministers Kader Asmal and Ronnie Kasrils, Group Executive: Partnership Development and Communication at the South African Revenue Service (SARS), Head of the Communication Service Agency (CSA) at the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS), and Managing Director of Simeka TWS Communications, a consultancy advising on reputation and stakeholder risk.
Anthony Williams
Anthony brings over four decades of leadership in retirement fund management to his dual roles as Chief Executive and Principal Officer of the SABC Pension Fund and also the SABC Medical Scheme, positions he has held concurrently for 26 years.
After serving Articles he began his career at Eskom, serving as Audit Manager: Special Projects before moving into retirement fund administration as Investment Administration Manager at the Eskom Pension and Provident Fund. A Chartered Accountant (SA), Anthony combines technical expertise with a passion for communication and member engagement. He coined the Fund and Scheme mottos “On Your Pulse” and “Friends for Life”, which continue to guide his leadership philosophy.
Anthony’s contributions have been recognised through numerous local and international awards for Retirement Fund Communication, Investment Practices, Governance and Ethics. Among these are two Gold Quills and a Silver Quill from the International Association of Business Communicators in New York, and the title Maverick of the Year at the World Pensions Summit in London in 2017. Over the course of his career, he has received more than 70 awards, underscoring a sustained impact on the retirement fund industry.
He is a Certified Principal Executive Officer and a past Vice President of the Institute of Retirement Funds Africa (IRFA). Anthony has also served as a moderator and judge on international awards programmes and on the IRFA judging panel, contributing his expertise to the recognition and advancement of best practices in governance, ethics, and communication.
Anthony believes that beyond financial performance, a retirement fund’s greatest contribution is ensuring members — especially pensioners — feel respected, valued and cared for in their later years. Under his leadership, the SABC Pension Fund and Medical Scheme have consistently achieved high reputational indices in structured annual research projects, reflecting a culture of personal communication and member focused initiatives.
Beyond his professional responsibilities, Anthony is a proud father and grandfather, with his son and two young grandsons living in Portugal. His daughter was sadly taken too soon, a loss that deepened his appreciation for family and resilience. At home he shares his life with his long term partner Lee and a lively household of dachshunds and a Labrador.
Despite notable external recognition, Anthony acknowledges that success is ultimately transient. He emphasizes instead that his journey began from humble roots and continues to be guided by the belief that life’s true value lies in family and enduring friendships — a principle that shapes both his leadership and his personal life.
Today, as he continues to lead the SABC Pension Fund and Medical Scheme and hopes to contribute to the broader retirement fund community through IRFA, he remains committed to ensuring that members and pensioners are not only financially secure but also feel valued and cared for.
Shafeeq Abrahams
Shafeeq Abrahams is a Chartered Accountant, institutional leader, and passionate advocate for building a retirement system that delivers both financial security and social progress. As Chief Executive and Principal Officer of the EPPF, one of South Africa’s largest retirement funds, he leads an organisation entrusted with safeguarding the long-term financial wellbeing of thousands of members while stewarding significant pools of capital on behalf of current and future generations.
He has led organisations through periods of significant change and believes that sustainable success is achieved when strong governance, purposeful leadership and innovation are aligned with the interests of members and stakeholders.
Beyond his executive responsibilities, Shafeeq serves on a number of local and international boards and advisory bodies, contributing to discussions on the future of retirement systems, responsible investment and institutional development. He is a strong advocate for the role that pension and retirement funds can play in supporting economic growth, infrastructure development and broader societal progress through responsible stewardship of long-term capital.
Shafeeq is particularly interested in the future evolution of South Africa’s retirement landscape. His thought leadership focuses on improving retirement outcomes, enhancing financial wellness, strengthening governance and institutional capability, harnessing technology and innovation, and building retirement institutions that remain relevant to the changing needs of members, employers and society.
He believes that the retirement fund of the future must be more than a savings vehicle. It must serve as a trusted partner in helping members navigate their financial lives, while acting as a responsible custodian of capital that contributes to a more inclusive, resilient and sustainable economy.
